Letterkenny Gaels defeated Burt to win the County U14 B Hurling Championship at Pairc na nGael last Sunday evening. Gaels played with the breeze in the first half and with early goals from Peter O'Donnell, Donal McCormick and Brian Diver established a strong lead. Shay Doherty was accurate with frees and a goal from Cathair Doherty just before half time gave Gaels a lead of 4.5 to 0.1. Burt played with the wind in the second half and quickly went on the attack. Gaels defence held strong restricting Burt to 3 points, Patrick Page in goals showing great agility and clearing the sliothar well. An Enda Kerrane point kept Gaels scoring when a scrambled Burt goal and following point brought their score up. A late Gaels point left the final score Gaels 4.7 Burt 1.5. Captain Shay Doherty was presented with the Shield by Hurling Board Chairman Manus O'Donnell.

This match was a fitting end to a great season for the U14 hurling squad where all players have done their best for the team. Participation in Feile 2013 was the highlight for many but to win the Championship and take home the Liam Emery Trophy to Pairc na nGael is of equal importance. Congratulations to all players for their efforts and to managers Stephen Doherty and Willie O'Donnell and mentors Padraig Diver and Jackie Doherty, for their hard work throughout the year more photos here
