The Letterkenny Gaels u14 lads travelled to Downings to take on Naomh Mhuire in the Division 2 All County league semi-final on Saturday afternoon. With a very strong wind blowing and regular showers, conditions were far from ideal for both teams. ...
Naomh Mhuire won the toss and played with the wind advantage in the first half, The Rosses men opened the scoring with a point from play and followed up with a goal and were leading by 1-02 to no score before R Marley scored a great point from distance against the wind. Naomh Mhuire had scored another goal before the Gaels, through some great defensive play by K Patton, set the platform for a number of attacks which M Sweeney and R Marley scored goals.

Half-time score:
Naomh Mhuire 3-05
Letterkenny Gaels 3-02

At the start of the second half Gaels were caught napping and the keeper B Carr was unsighted to allow in another goal for Naomh Mhuire, which left the Gaels trailing by 6 points. The introduction of Junior for J Doherty added new impetus to the Gaels attack. K Kilfeather scored two goals following some good build up play from the half backs with M Sweeney and D Cahill working hard in midfield. The Gaels completely dominated the latter period of the second half although they had allowed Naomh Mhuire score a second goal.

Final score:
Letterkenny Gaels 7-07
Naomh Mhuire 5-05

Hard luck and commiserations to Naomh Mhuire who contributed to an excellent competitive sporting match. Next up is Convoy on Wed evening at 7pm at Pairc na nGael.
