Letterkenny Gaels Fun Day

posted 1 Oct 2013, 01:22 by Letterkenny Gaels

The Annual Fun Day was a huge success with many families, club members and locals coming along to join in the fun and games.
The two MC’s Jim and Oisin ensured the events ran smoothly and mostly on time.  They were so good that someone commented that it was like watching Morecombe and Wise at times.
Maura O’Baoill again provided the Gaels Mascot and many, both young and old tried to guess his name in order to win him as he was so cute.
Guess the Calories in the Banoffee Pie and Guess the Number of Sweets in the Jar both attracted many who were eager to get their hands on them and to satisfy their sweet tooth. Hope the winner remembers to brush her teeth or it will be the Tooth Fairy that is satisfied.
The Lucky dip again proved to be very popular with people of all ages trying their luck.  Thanks to Clare Foody who ran this stall with practised ease and to the local businesses who sponsored the prizes.
he area around the ever popular stocks rang with laughter as players took the chance to throw wet sponges at managers and mentors. Those who were sent to the stocks were Sharon Harnett, Oisin Cannon, Paddy Doherty, Tom Murray , Paul Daly and of course the Chairperson Dan Harnett.
The athletics events  organised by Sean and James, assisted by Catherine and Paul who took the enties, was again very popular and the novelty races were a rip roaring success with Family Relay Race being heavily contested by “Rival” families some of whom have tried for the coveted title for several years. The winning Family this year were the well known Terence Diver family.
The Raffle was a real success thanks to the wonderful prizes sponsored by local businesses and the unbeatable ticket selling prowess of Jackie Doherty.
The day was rounded off with Fun Tug of War. Which had everyone who took part, tugging with all their might and the spectators cheering them on.
And no Fun Day would be complete without the Hospitality tent and the Barbeque.  Michael, Mal and Kieran kept everyone supplied with Burgers and Hot Dogs, while Susanna, Francis , Aideen and Patricia served up delicious homemade cakes and pastries and much needed teas and coffees.
A heartfelt and well deserved thank you to all who helped to organise the Day, to those who helped out on the day, to all who came and joined us and of course to all the sponsor.
The club would ask that all members support the sponsors whenever they can
