Letterkenny Gaels GAA Club Notes

The senior footballers lost out to a determined Robert Emmetts side at Páirc na nGael on Sunday. The lads are free this weekend. Please see Facebook for upcoming match fixtures.

Letterkenny Gaels GAA Club are now taking bookings for the summer Kellogg’s Cul Camp which will run from Monday 23rd to Friday 27th July at Pairc na nGael. The camp is open to all Boys and Girls age 6-13.
Bookings can be made online or for enquiries or to receive a booking form contact Sean McBrearty 085-1742175.
The camp is open to all including non club members or children who would like to try out Gaelic games.

  • Letterkenny Gaels U-16 girls training continues every Wednesday from 6pm to 7.15pm and Sunday from 11am to 12.15pm.
  • Camogie training continues at Pairc na nGael every Friday for U8, 10 & 12 from 6.30-8pm and U14/16 on Monday at 6.30pm. New girls welcome and equipment is available to borrow.

The U-12 Hurlers got their season underway with a home game against Buncrana on Thursday night and were defeated by a strong Inishowen side. This week the lads are away to Burt.
  • Underage hurling training continues every Thursday evening at the pitch from 6.30 to 7.30 for U-6 to U-12. Hurls and helmets may be borrowed for new members. All welcome.

Bingo continues every Monday in the Arena 7. The Jackpot stands at €7200.

Congratulations to Niall Diver and the U-17 County hurlers on their semifinal victory over Fermanagh in the Celtic Challenge which took place in Lurgan at the weekend.
Also well done to Oisin Cannon and the Donegal senior footballers on their Ulster Final success on Sunday.

The finals of the Letterkenny and District Gaelic Football Primary Schools League took place at Pairc na nGael on Wednesday past, where we hosted the 2018 small and large Primary Schools finals day.  Nine different boys and girls teams from nine schools travelled to the Glebe for a bumper day of football.  Glenswilly NS boys and Kilmacrennan NS girls were victorious in the Elaine Winstor Friel and the Susan Carr Cup large schools competitions respectively.  Scoil Mhuire Cresslough NS took the Andrew Duffy Memorial Shield in the Small Schools competition. 
Letterkenny Gaels would like to congratulate all the schools involved, winners and runners up. A special word of thanks to Jim Clarke, his organising committee and all the school teachers for all the hard work throughout the school year in making this great competition a success.
Letterkenny Gaels were represented by John McDermott and Brian Sweeney from the Underage Football sub-committee. Shaun McGilloway and Niall Diver assisted with the officiating of the games and Yvonne Ní Bhaoil made sure the teachers and coaches received a well deserved cup of tea and a sandwich.
Well done all.

Commiserations to our young U-12 footballers who were defeated in the Northern Regional Board Final on Saturday past. The lads battled until the end but Glenfin held on for the victory. The lads will be in action again this Saturday when they travel to Carndonagh for the All County Finals.

We will be holding auditions for young Club Members (U-17 on 1st Jan 2019) for this years Scór na nÓg in the Clubroom on Thursday 28th June at 7pm. If you know anybody who may be interested please let them know.

As a curtain raiser to the Northern Board Final in Termon on Saturday the U-11 footballers played out an entertaining game of football against Glenfin. On Wednesday evening past the U-9 footballers traveled across town to play neighbours St. Eunans in a challenge game as part of the Go Games series. Both clubs fielded two teams. Thanks to Gabriel Duffy and all involved at the O’Donnell Park for hosting us. The young Gaels are eagerly awaiting the return fixture.

The Senior footballers had a deserved win over Naomh Padraig, Uisce Chaoin on Saturday evening at Páirc na nGael. Please see Facebook for upcoming match fixtures.

Well done to our U-12 footballers and the management team of David O’Callaghan and Anthony McDaid on reaching the U-12 Northern Board Division 2 Final. The lads secured a narrow win over Red Hugh’s and will take on Glenfin in the final this weekend.

The Senior and Reserve footballers lost their games against Downings on Saturday past and are at home to Naomh Padraig Uisce Chaoin this Saturday evening. See Facebook for match details.

Pride of place this weekend goes to our U-14 hurlers who took part in Féile na nGael 2018 which was played in Connaught at the weekend. The lads were hosted by Tourlestrane GAA Club in County Sligo. This was a great weekend of hurling which saw the team play four games of hurling reaching the quarter finals where they unfortunately lost out to Claremorris. The lads were real ambassadors for the club and done us all proud. Thanks to Ray, Stephen, Roisin, Sharon, Angela and bus driver James and to all the traveling parents and supporters for making this a truly memorable weekend.

The U-10 Camogs hosted a blitz at Páirc na nGael on Friday past with visiting clubs St. Eunans and Setanta taking part. 
On Monday evening the U-12 Camogs welcomed Naomh Padraig Uisce Chaoin for their first ever competitive match.

It was a busy morning at Pairc na nGael on Saturday when Letterkenny Gaels hosted the Glenswilly u8 and U10 football teams. Both clubs fielded two strong teams with a good mix of boys and girls on each team. Despite the dull weather conditions, these young footballers served up a feast of football on the pitch. All games were well contested with some great footballing skills were on display. This blitz was part of the Northern Board summer series of U8 and U10 games planned throughout the summer.

Parents of the U-14 hurling children who are attending Féile na nGael are holding a Cake Sale in the Community Rooms of the Church of the Irish Martyrs after Masses this weekend.
All welcome.

Thanks to all who attended and helped out in any way for our successful 5k Road Race, Fun Run & Walk on Tuesday past.

The U-12 Camogs had an early start on Saturday morning past when they traveled to Belfast for the Annual Jim Nelson Camogie Tournament. The girls played four matches against some of Ulster Camogies big guns which included Ballycastle, Cushendall, Loughgeil and Gort na Mona. The girls reached the shield semifinal where they battled hard but were ultimately defeated.

New girls welcome and equipment is available to borrow.
U14 camogie training is on Wednesdays at 6pm on the pitch.

Last Wednesday evening was a busy one for the underage footballers in the club. The U-10 Mixed footballers had a good runout against St. Eunans while over in Castlefinn the U-11 and U-12 lads were in action.

Club News 22nd May

The Senior footballers were away to Pettigo on Saturday evening last where they recorded a victory over the hosts. This weekend the lads are free and will continue the league on the 2nd June.

The U-17 footballers had a win over Cloughaneely in their opening match of the league and are away to Mc Cools next week.

Preparations are well underway for the hosting of our 5k Fun Run and Walk which takes place next Tuesday the 29th May. See Facebook for more details.

Well done to our U-14 Camogie and Hurling players who represented Letterkenny Gaels GAA Club in their respective Skills Competition at the weekend in Burt (Camogie) & Convoy (Hurling). In Burt Louise, Niamh and Tori had great efforts in windy conditions. Tori finished 4th and Niamh and Louise in top 10. Over in Convoy Joseph, Conal & Neil represented the hurlers with distinction. Well done all.

An improving Letterkenny Gaels U-16 girls team made the long trek to Malin on Wednesday evening to play their latest league fixture. The girls faced off against a very strong Inishowen team and despite a slow start they worked their way back into the game coming to the break with two excellent points from Leanne Bradley and Orlaith Carey.
A much improved second half saw the girls score goals through Leanne Bradley and Hannah Kilfeather with points from Claire Sweeney and Leanne Bradley. The girls had a goal disallowed in the final quarter. Late in the game the hosts scored two goals to seal the victory. This was a very encouraging display from the young Gaels as they move on to play Naomh Colmcille at home on Tuesday. Overall this was a great team display from the girls who are improving with every game.

Club News 15th May

The Senior footballers made the short journey to Páirc Colmcille, Newton to play Naomh Colmcille in their refixed League match on Saturday evening past where the hosts claimed the victory. This week the lads travel to Pettigo.

The U-14 Camogs had a good win over St Eunans in the Championship Quarter Final which was played in O’Donnell Park on Monday past.

The U-11 footballers welcomed Glenswilly to the Glebe last Monday evening for a challenge game. Both clubs had two teams who played out a number of games.
The U-12’s traveled to Lifford on Wednesday night to take on Naomh Padraig in the League. The lads didn’t get into the rhythm of the game in the first half and although they improved their performance in the second half they couldn’t claw back the hosts. 

Well done to the U-16 footballers who recorded a good victory over Moville in the U-16 Championship last Tuesday evening. The lads are fixed play Naomh Ultan this week in their final group game of the Championship.

The Senior footballers had four points to spare over Robert Emmetts on Saturday past while the reserves lost their high scoring game. This weekend the lads are at home to Urris.

Our U-14 hurlers have qualified for Féile na nGael 2018 which takes place on 8th, 9th and 10th of June next. The lads will travel to Tubercurry in Co. Sligo for their section of the competition.
In the coming weeks, parents of the boys are undertaking a fundraising drive to help with the cost of this and we are asking for the support of club members and the wider community with this.
We will be hosting various events and any support would be appreciated.

Well done to the Gaels Camogs who represented Woodland National School in the Ulster Cumann na mBunscol Indoor Finals last Wednesday. The girls gave a great account of themselves in their tough group. Well done girls.
On Friday evening the U10 Camogs travelled to Na Magha in Derry for their first Blitz of the season. The girls played games against Na Magha, Naomh Padraig and Burt.
The U-14 Camogs welcomed Four Masters to Páirc na nGael on Monday night where the young Gaels recorded a one point victory. 
  • Camogie training continues at Pairc na Gaeil every Friday for U8, 10 & 12 from 6.30-8pm. The U-8 & U-10 girls will compete in blitz’s every other Friday from this weekend until September. New girls welcome and equipment is available to borrow.
  • U14 camogie training is on Wednesdays at 6pm on the pitch.

The U-16 footballers had a good victory over Burt in their first game of the Championship last Tuesday. This was a tough physical encounter which will stand to the lads in their upcoming games.
The U8 and U10 footballers were on the road again on Saturday morning as they travelled to Killgordan to take on Red Hughs for the second round of games of this season's series of GAA football GO Games. Both clubs fielded two teams at U8s and U10s respectively and there were some excellent footballing skills on display. The games were all very evenly matched contests with all the boys and girls having a great time.
Next up for the young Gaels is a home fixture against Sean MacCumhaills in two weeks time.

The Senior footballers were defeated by a good Carndonagh side at Páirc na nGael on Saturday past. This weekend the lads are away to Robert Emmetts. See Facebook for fixture details.

Our U-14 hurlers have qualified for Féile na nGael 2018 which takes place on 8th, 9th and 10th of June next. The lads will travel to Tubercurry in Co. Sligo for their section of the competition.
In the coming weeks, parents of the boys are undertaking a fundraising drive to help with the cost of this and we are asking for the support of club members and the wider community with this.
We will be hosting various events and any support would be appreciated.

  • Camogie training continues at Pairc na Gaeil every Friday for U8, 10 & 12 from 6.30-8pm. The U-8 & U-10 girls will compete in blitz’s every other Friday from this weekend until September. This Friday the girls are away to Na Magh, Derry. New girls welcome and equipment is available to borrow.
  • U14 camogie training is on Wednesdays at 6pm on the pitch.

Michael Murphy Sports & Leisure in Letterkenny are currently stocking Club gear which includes replica jerseys, training tops, jackets, bobble hats, scarfs etc.

The U-12 footballers continued their season on Wednesday past when they welcomed neighbours St. Eunan’s to Páirc na nGael. In windy conditions it was the visitors who left victorious.
  • Underage football training continues every Sunday at the pitch. Please see below for details. U6s Sunday's 11-12noon, U8s, U9s and U10s (boys & girls) 10:30am to 12noon, 
  • U11s & U12s (Boys) 7-8:30pm Monday's and Wednesday's, 
  • U12s (Girls) Friday's at 6pm (dual football & camogie session),
  •  U14s, every Friday from 7pm-8.15 & U16s should contact Tom to confirm weekly times.
New members are always welcome.

  • Underage hurling training continues every Thursday evening at the pitch from 6.30 to 7.30 for U-6 to U-12. Hurls and helmets may be borrowed for new members. All welcome.
The U-14 had a free week past and are at home to Buncrana this Thursday evening.

The girls U-16 football team took to the field on Tuesday evening against Dungloe in their first runout of 2018. This is the first U-16 girls team at the club for a number of years and we wish them well.

Bingo continues every Monday in the Arena 7. The Jackpot stands at €6700.
