The senior and reserve footballers were defeated by Moville at the weekend. This Saturday both teams are at home to Red Hughs. See Facebook for more details.

Last weekend the hurlers of Letterkenny Gaels virtually cycled and pucked their way to Croke Park in a unique fundraiser where, with the use of static bicycles and laps of Páirc na nGael they achieved the 236k journey. In the Courtyard Shopping Centre on Saturday the Gaels completed the journey in four hours and forty minutes while in glorious sunshine on Sunday they completed it in two hours and thirty minutes, faster than any of the local bus operators!!!! The hurlers of Gaeil Leitir Ceannain would like to thank everyone who took part, helped out or sponsored this fundraiser. More pictures and list of sponsors can be viewed on Letterkenny Gaels Facebook page.

Letterkenny Gaels U-12 footballers hosted Goath Dobhair on Wednesday evening last at Páirc na nGael. First up were the 2006 development team, playing in ideal playing conditions, both teams played free flowing football which resulted in plenty of fine scores.  Andrew Nicols marshalled the defence well for the home side, with Senan Nolan and John Antonio Gallagher full of running.  Mark Patterson and Robert O’Driscoll linked up superbly with forward line and cause all sorts of problems for the away team’s defence.  Gaoth Domhair won out in the end in a highly entertaining game of football. In the 2005 game, it took the boys a while to find their feet and Gaoth Dobhair opened up and early lead.  When they did get going, it was an encouraging performance from a team who are showing continuous improvement as the weeks go by.  The football improved greatly as the game went on, with passes starting to stick and forwards finding their range.  All round this was a great team performance.

  • Under 16s girls and younger football training is on every Sunday morning from 11am to 12 noon at Pairc na nGael.  Over 16/seniors is on Fridays from 6.30pm to 7.30pm at Pairc na nGael. Senior ladies circuit training is on in the Clubroom on Fridays at 6.30 for U-16's, U-18's and senior ladies.

Our U14 Camogie panel were in action at the Feile blitz in Convoy on Sunday last. The results didn't go our way but with 18 out of 23 girls underage next year, it was great experience for the future. The girls showed great skills but lacked physicality of older girls. They made up for that with their passion & determination. Well done everyone! A Gaels well done to Carndonagh  & Four Masters who qualified this year.
  • Outdoor Camogie Training for U-8, U-10 & U-12 continues every Friday evening at the pitch from 6-7pm. U-12, U-14 & U-16 training continues at the pitch every Monday evening from 6-7.30pm. New players always welcome.
Last Saturday some of Letterkenny Gaels young hurlers made the long journey to Croke Park to take part in a Go Games Tournament. They all played for over 90 minutes on the hallowed ground in teams made up of their rivals from Aodh Ruadh, Four Masters, Buncrana, St Eunans, Setanta, Burt, Mac Cumhaills, Gaoth Dobhair and Carndonagh. All the Gaels played exceptionally well and some managed to score goal or a point. This memory will be with them forever. All the players got a tour of the facilities in Croke Park and were treated to complimentary breakfast and dinner and each got a jersey for their participation.
  • Outdoor hurling training takes place every Thursday evening from 6.30-7.30pm at Páirc na nGael for U-6 to U-12's. All welcome.

In the U-12 Football League Cloughaneely were the visitors to Páirc na nGael on Wednesday evening as our under 12 boys had their first league outing of the season. There was plenty of skill on display in 2 competitive games. The 2006 boys were up first and there were strong performances by Mark Patterson in goal, Jake Grimes and Andrew Nicols in defence, with Dáithí McDaid and Jack Keys showing well in Midfield.  DJ McCauly was a real handful up front and took his scores well. The 2005 boys came up against a strong outfit, however they battled hard to the end with good performances from Neil O'Baoil, Ben Winters, with Mark Margay and Joseph Patton hitting 3 pointers. Next up is a trip to neighbours Glenswilly.

Club News 22nd Feb 2017

posted 26 Feb 2017, 09:46 by Letterkenny Gaels   [ updated 26 Feb 2017, 10:13 ]

Bhí oíche den scoth ag Gaeil Leitir Ceanainn areir. Gaels were well represented in the County semi-final of Scór. Méabh Ní Chathail sang a wonderful solo ballad and just missed out on a place in the County Final despite coming out with a score of 95/100. That just shows the standard of the competition. Michael O'Connor gave a hugely entertaining rendition of The Tae Man in the storytelling competition. Katrina Patton, Niamh Hanley, Clíona Conaghan, Méabh Ní Chathail and Bairbre Uí Chathail won the ballad group section with two great songs and fabulous, tight harmonies (with huge thanks to Brighdín Carr). The quiz team on the night included Paul Melaugh, Michael O'Connor, Garry Coll and Bairbre Uí Chathail. It may not have been their finest outing!! Brian Sweeney's entertaining play The AGM was brilliantly performed by the Gaels drama squad of Bernie Frain, Noel Sweeney, Garry Coll, Brighdín Carr, Sheila Sweeney, Celine Sweeney and Brian Sweeney. The play received a great response from the audience and you have an opportunity to see it and hear the ballad group in the Scór County Final next Saturday 25th February starting at 7.30 in the clubhouse at Glenswilly. Thig le Gaeil Leitir Ceanainn bheith fíor bhrodúil as an dream a bhí ar an ardan areir. Na Gaeil abú!
